To South Valley – Half Day

The South Valley Tour of Cusco is a tourist route located southeast of the city of Cusco, Peru, famous for combining impressive Inca hydraulic engineering, pre-Inca ruins (Wari culture), and beautiful colonial towns. The classic circuit lasts approximately 5 hours and highlights three main points: Tipón: An Inca archaeological complex renowned for its impressive agricultural terraces and advanced system of canals and water fountains. Pikillacta: A large pre-Inca city built by the Wari culture, with walls, streets, and stone enclosures. Andahuaylillas: A town famous for housing the Church of San Pedro, known worldwide as the «Sistine Chapel of the Americas» for its impressive murals and colonial ceilings. To complement the tour, the circuit often includes visits to Huacarpay Lagoon and the town of Saylla, where you can sample the traditional Cusco-style chicharrón (fried pork).

Itinerary

To South Valley - Half Day

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. We will head south of Cusco, arriving first at the town of Tipón to visit its archaeological complex. This site showcases the impressive hydraulic engineering of the Incas, with fountains and canals still in use for distributing water to each Inca terrace. After a guided tour of these Inca constructions, we will continue our excursion and visit the pre-Inca site of Pikillacta, a satellite city of the Wari culture. A unique example of ancient urban planning, the guide will share the history of this site with you, and from there we will enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding valley. Finally, we will visit the town of Andahuaylillas and two colonial churches: the Church of San Pedro, known as «the Sistine Chapel of the Americas,» and the Colonial Church of Huaro, which displays Baroque paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries of the Cusco School. At the end of our tour, we will return to Cusco at approximately 2:00 p.m.
